Well, today was my birthday. I turned 19. I woke up, my dad made a waffle for me, I drank some coffee and then went to the lake with only my brother and my dad. Possibly the most low-key birthday I've ever had. Of course, afterwards we ate food and red velvet cake and I got some prezzies. But yeah, if someone else doesn't plan my birthday it ends up being only slightly more exciting than an average day.
But it's already more exciting because it's my birthday, right? Yes. I genuinely appreciate all the love I receive on my birthday, because now I have a whole new set of people to wish me a happy birthday. Not in a like "YAY ME" kind of way, (I mean a little bit) but it's just cool because now there are so many more people to get to know. It's just neat to see people that I met in class but don't know that well, or girls on my floor that I've talked to sometimes who write "happy birthday!" on my wall. I mean, I know that doesn't mean we're best friends now but to me, it's like they're saying "Hey. I don't know you all that well but you seem like a nice/cool/interesting person so I will say happy birthday and I'll even put it in caps with some exclamation points and also add 'have a great day'". I honestly don't think that's an unreasonable message to get from that. Because to be perfectly honest, that's what goes through my head when deciding to wish someone happy birthday on Facebook. (Yes, sometimes I have to think about this for acquaintances/peers/strangers. We all have our faults.)
I also totally love when people text me to tell me happy birthday. Like my cousins or even friends who are my friends but I haven't spoken to them in a while and we don't really talk all the time. And then they just send a message, like that's what makes my day. Hanging out with all my friends would be fun, but I can hang out with them in a couple days or something.
Can't hang out with my Wheaton friends though. They're all over the world, literally. It sucks because I go from living with people, seeing them 24/7 to never seeing them at all. That isn't fair. So, I don't know maybe that's why I just wanted to have a chill day with my family instead of a party or dinner or something.
Anyway. Do you want to know what presents I got? You might not and that's okay. I got some cash, a dress, and a cute little polka dot canvas backpack from my parents. My mom's parents are sending a card in the mail (read: cash) but my dad's mom may not remember my birthday for a couple days or weeks. Which is fine. She loves me.
Just also want y'all to know that I have a fantastic Chaco tan right now. Possibly the best it's ever been. My shoulders are peeling from a sunburn. It's really hard to completely wash off sunscreen. I should also call some stores tomorrow about a job…I did not exercise today for obvious reasons, but I will try to get around to that tomorrow. It might have to be in the morning. I need to start my paper for my OT class. It's due July 11. I need to start studying for the math test I'm going to take in August so I don't have to take a math class. And at some point I'll need to start spending that birthday $$$. OH. I'm also going to write a letter to my friend Bev while she's camp counseling.
So, that was my day! :)
